Dr Panagiotis Vorkas
Research Associate
Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), Centre for Research & Technology
Greece
Panos is a researcher (Grade C) at the Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB), Centre for Research & Technology, Hellas (CERTH), located at Thessaloniki, Greece. He also holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position at Imperial College London.
For his research, he predominately employs metabolic profiling (metabolomics/metabonomics), by utilising LC-MS, MS-Imaging (DESI- and MALDI-) and NMR spectroscopic techniques. He is focusing on developing untargeted and targeted metabolic and lipid profiling methods, with the ultimate goal of expanding metabolome coverage. He holds a special interest in metabolite/lipid structure assignment by tandem-MS. His projects are primarily under the themes of cardiovascular disease and risk-factors, but also inflammation, cancer and nutrition.
He has graduated with a PhD from Imperial College London in 2014. He received an MSc degree in Clinical Chemistry from the University of Athens, Greece (2008) and a BSc degree in Chemistry (2006), from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In 2019 he completed a Postgraduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching, at Imperial College London.
